Nice Ads to promote video – calling in Korea

It seems like videocalls aren’t getting that popular. At least in Korea where they already have 3,5G HSDPA cellular networks (I am still waiting here for 3G!!, thanks at this point Hutchison Austria for being so fast :( ) the operators try to make videocalling more popular.

Fixing Beryl problems in Ubuntu Feisty and the i810

In another post I was mentioning that there is a way to make Beryl run smoother when you change the depth in X11 lower than 24.

Actually by the time I had the feeling it sucks. Well it is faster even you have a lot of eyecandy enabled, but on the other side I didn’t really like it when the shadows around that window for example don’t look nice. Or when other things are looking bad only because of the screen depth. I was playing around changing the depth to 24 but it only resulted in the white screen of death, or yes Beryl only showed me a white cube.

So I found a solution for it when I was searching for something very different.

Anyway reinstalling unstable intel drivers did the trick. Everything now works like a charm and in 24bit depth :)

If you want the unstable intel drivers installed just give your terminal some:

sudo aptitude xserver-xorg-video-intel/unstable

and restart the Xserver
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
and you are done.

Can enhancing my Ubuntu desktop with Beryl help me pass the 350-001 exam? Maybe the flaming effects applied to the window displaying my VCP-310 study guide or my Cisco 640-802 questions and answers would help motivate me to study? It could just be that nothing will help you pass the actual tests that go with the Microsoft 70-290 exam than actual hard work and determination.

Make the hotkeys of the Panasonic Let’s note series work again in Feisty

When I upgraded my Ubuntu to Feisty everything was quite fine. The only things which didn’t work were some hotkeys. Basically I could switch between very bright and very dark and the option for changing brightness in the power manager also disappeared. There was also no way to control the audio from the hotkeys. The hotkey for hibernating still worked.

In the last release I don’t remember exactly if I installed this hotkey driver or if it worked out of the box.

To make the hotkeys work again I got this archive which fixes the problem. The readme tells you where to put the files. This bugreport deals with the problem. The readme says that the files from the archive will not work if you didn’t install the hotkey drivers.

The other good thing which will be fixed is that you now have 10 brightness levels available. Before there were just very bright and very dark, now I can go through the different levels which I really missed before.

If only there were hot keys for disabling ppc links and email marketing spam that hit our email boxes. A one-click solution to slow adsl speeds and redundant domain names would be an instant success. The marketing should get right on that.
