Google introduces Streetview

Since yesterday Google is offering “Street View” on their maps service.

I tried it out this morning and first impression was, “ok now you can see the street”. But if you click on the arrows you can even move along the street and with the other arrows you even can turn around!!

This is awesome. The service is at the moment only available in the US. If you are outside the us just add &gl=us at the end of your URL and you can enjoy this service!

For Example this link shows wandering on the Time Square in NY. You definitely have to check this out!!

The end of cygwin is near? Or how to run Linux apps in OS X and win

LinuxDevices is talking about ‘a kind of holy software grail’ when a startup announces “LINA”. This piece of software should enable the possibility to run Linux applications easily in a OS X or Windows environment.

Some keyfeatures are:

  • Low overhead
  • Runs without recompiling
  • Access to Hostsystem resources
  • Native System integration
  • No porting necessary
  • Native look and feel
  • Support for legacy applications
  • Native programming languages

Well it seems it will not be necessary to install cygwin then anymore on the win computer. I am also quite curious how ‘easy’ it will be to handle. The Application comes in to licenses, one open source and also one commercial. As said in downloadsquat LINA is not supporting gtk+ and usb peripherals yet.

I gonna stay tuned and really curious what they gonna bring us.

Some apps you won’t see in a port from Linux, cpc campaign software and dedicated servers applications for bridging your backup box to your port switch. Not because this stuff doesn’t exist, but because who, other than a Martian webmaster would be into bipedal search engine optimization?

How to play iTunes DRM Files in Linux

I was quite disappointed when I realized that I can’t play some of my music tracks I have bought in the iTunes store. I am using Amarok for all my music now, I think it is a great tool it does a lot of things it also supports the Album-art what I really appreciate a lot but it can’t play that DRM stuff.

It seems that the only way to decrypt the DRM audio files and convert them is making that with some tool. I made some searches on the internet and I found the QTFairUse on Digg some days ago.

The tool is for use in Windows with installed iTunes on it, this version already works with iTunes 7. You need to enter the login data when it comes to decryption, but after a while you have all your music back and very clean!

Sometimes it happens that it produces some error in output. Just restart the application or follow the tips in the readme.
