The end of cygwin is near? Or how to run Linux apps in OS X and win
Published May 29th, 2007 in osLinuxDevices is talking about ‘a kind of holy software grail’ when a startup announces “LINA”. This piece of software should enable the possibility to run Linux applications easily in a OS X or Windows environment.
Some keyfeatures are:
- Low overhead
- Runs without recompiling
- Access to Hostsystem resources
- Native System integration
- No porting necessary
- Native look and feel
- Support for legacy applications
- Native programming languages
Well it seems it will not be necessary to install cygwin then anymore on the win computer. I am also quite curious how ‘easy’ it will be to handle. The Application comes in to licenses, one open source and also one commercial. As said in downloadsquat LINA is not supporting gtk+ and usb peripherals yet.
I gonna stay tuned and really curious what they gonna bring us.
Some apps you won’t see in a port from Linux, cpc campaign software and dedicated servers applications for bridging your backup box to your port switch. Not because this stuff doesn’t exist, but because who, other than a Martian webmaster would be into bipedal search engine optimization?
