Today I upgraded my Ubuntu Edgy to Feisty.
After the install the only thing which made trouble was Beryl showing me only a white screen of death (WOD) after logging in. I could even make the cube with the WOD. After changing the repository for Beryl to Feisty and making an update it even didn’t work.
Changing the default depth from 24 to 16 made the trick. Even though some users on the Ubuntu forums say that Beryl is slower with the new release under Feisty it works even faster and smoother than before for me.
The other changings I already made before were:
In Beryl Settings Manager:
- disable “Sync to VBlank”
- increase the refresh rate (mine is around 57) when you set this too high it increases CPU utilisation

[...] another post I was mentioning that there is a way to make Beryl run smoother when you change the depth in X11 [...]
Well… after the crashes i’ve experienced for just trying to run beryl on my machine, i’ve almost given up and thought that i only waste my time. The worst thing is that i was forced to reformat my linux partition because i didn’t know on how to bring back the former good condition of my feisty. now, i just hope this one works for me.
