It is very sad that the support for Skype in Linux sucks sooo much. Their latest release is from 06-10-04 and this even doesn’t has video support yet. Seems they got influenced too much since eBay bought them.
Running the Windows Skype version with wine is also impossible so far. I couldn’t make it run at all.
I absolutely need video and also a client which is available on Windows. So I had to find a solution for that and I think I found something suitable. It is Openwengo . I checked the basic functions with video and audio and it seems to be quite good. Another nice feature is that you can login for other services like Yahoo messenger, MSN, ICQ and Jabber. If it satisfies me then I think I have to kick Skype.
Tomorrow I will also see if it lags as much as Skype when making calls to Japan. With Skype the video and audio delays are sometimes horrific.
